Art 2D Syllabus
2 Dimensional Art is a graded course where students are evaluated on their work habits, creativity, and overall effort. This 18 week course will have students explore many different types of 2D art, and go in depth with control and skill building strategies with these materials. Students will have the opportunity to find areas of 2 Dimensional Art that are interesting to them, and also try other materials that they may have little experience.
The students’ responsibilities are as follows:
1 Point Perspective : Create a hallway with lockers: Make them a colorful world using markers, crayons, or colored pencils.
2 Point Perspective : Create a cityscape using 2 point perspective.
Gesture Drawing Study: Draw 10 quick sketches of a model.
Still Life: Draw with pencil using shades and contrast
Watercolor: Choose a subject and paint using watercolor.

Choices could be: Portraits, Landscapes, Photo Manipulation, Photo Puzzle Mosaics, Andy Warhol representation, etc. Also, think about photo editing sites such as Photonet, gimp, picassa, picnik, photoshop, etc. The students will research, study this art, and create a final project based on their photo ideas. Remember, try and do multiple pictures if you are doing portraits, landscapes, etc. These projects will be presented in a class critique. You need to know some fun facts about an artist that created similar pictures, and information on the style of photography you are creating (how to, background, interesting facts, etc).
Recreation of a work of art: Use your skills of recreating what you see! Choose a work of art, and create it in your choice material. Remember that since this is a copy, you need to site the artist and NOT sell it! =)

The students’ responsibilities are as follows:
- Be on time for class and get your projects out when you come in. Always check the board for daily updates.
- Turn in work on time, labeling it with your first and last name, date, and title of work (late work and/or lack of this data will have points deducted). Remember, no name means no grade! Please, no initials!
- Always do your best. It is up to YOU to put all of your effort into these projects. Points will be deducted for sloppy work.
- Sketchbooks should be used for project sketches and to work in when you finish a project early.
- An 8 slide PowerPoint of an assigned subject is due during the last week of the semester. You will have the information needed to start this assignment the first week of class, and it is up to YOU to do your research outside of class! This is a part of your final grade!
- Art is fun, and have a good time with it! It is okay to have meaningful conversations while you are working on your projects, but NOT when the teacher is giving instructions, background, and demonstrations!
